| Using fluid modeling, the Shaw 650 foil package is a nice balance of lift vs. drag, while using shapes that remain tolerant of the odd chip or scratch.
Both built in fiberglass with load bearing carbon around a high density foam core, the foils are designed to last a long time while staying light.
The keel is lifted using a separate winch and crane, with a tapered section in the keelbox preventing the keel from dropping through the boat and ensuring the keel always locks in the same position. Shape has been created to maximise lift upwind while minimising drag downwind. Keel position is all up or all down.
The bulb size is based on maximising compliance with rating regulations in Australia, Europe and provides ample stability exceeding minimum righting requirements for rules analysed. Bulb size is 100kg; the keel foil is approximately 12kg including the lifting eye.
The rudder is built in one piece with a slot in tiller, and weighs approximately 6kg including carbon tiller with telescopic extension supplied. |
