| The Shaw 650 is built in composite high grade vacuum bagged vinylester fiberglass construction with a foam core and gelcoat finish. This method of construction has been extensively tested to develop the lightest possible structure which is still stiff and impact resistant. A series of bulkheads maximizes stiffness throughout the boat.
 Deckgear is mounted into inserted threaded reinforcements; carbon reinforcement around key load areas distributes loading and maintains the boat’s stiffness long term.
The wings are part of the hull, and provide comfortable seating as well as improved righting moment by extending deck beam while keeping waterline beam narrow; compared to earlier Shaws, the wings are now substantially thicker, providing more strength and an ergonomic lip to hike from.
The cockpit layout provides hand control s within easy reach plus ample below deck storage for overnight supplies, anchor, outboard, spare sails and so on. To ensure safety, anti slip grip is strategically placed in key areas. No winches, adjustment where needed and light weight deckgear are keys to making the boat easy to sail.
In the event of a knockdown or worse, the boat is broken into several separately sealed compartments, ensuring positive floatation in almost all circumstances.
The chainplates and prod housing are integrated into the boat; utmost careß has been placed on creating footrails, soft edges and stiffness where it is most needed while avoiding corners to catch or trip on.
Excluding deck fittings, the Shaw 650 complete hull and decks weighs approximately 135kg.
