Shaw 650 Monkey Business Does the Business in Geelong

27 / 01 / 2014

Congratulations to Cam Rae and his crew, coming a very credible 3rd in the highly competitive Geelong Festival of Sails fleet 2014.

Having campaigned the boat for a couple of years now, Cam is known as one of the nicest guys in Australian sailing as well as being a fierce competitor.  The 'green machine' managed to stay consistently in the top 3 boats most of the regatta, in the end losing out to the flying 8.5m Raptor who finished very strongly on the last day, and former Shaw 650 owners Ben and Noel Leigh-Smith who were just 3.5 points ahead of Cam in 2nd place.

The newly named "Star" of Chris Bland (what happened to the traditional of boat porn Chris?!) had a good first major regatta, managing to beat Cam on line in one race with a best performance 3rd; given that he only started racing Shaw 650s in middle of 2013, this shows that the learning curve the the Shaw six five oh is not so steep.  But winning in the ASBA fleet....not an easy thing to do!
